Honestly, I don’t disagree. I feel like he really brought the awkward, which, let’s be honest, Darcy is really just an awkward introvert trying not to say the wrong thing and just keeps saying the wrong thing.
So, my recommendation does have a lace edge that does not fully disappear under clothing, but it is comfortable (more so than a hippie brand I had tried that just is too aggressive). I really like the Natori Bliss Cotton French Cut Briefs. They are perfect for a day of city life where you are maybe walking errands in 95 degree heat or down on the ground wrangling nieces.
Regarding underwear: I just purchased some of the Tommy John women's air brief, and they are real good, especially for summer. Yes, they look like granny panties, but I'm not sure I care when they stay put, are lightweight, and don't give VPL. There are also bikinis and hipsters, which I have not tried and may be slightly more attractive.
And thank you for discussing your new water bottle! I am also not a Stanley fan because I don't like that the straw is always out and getting dirty. I have a Starbucks water bottle that is pretty good at keeping stuff cold, but I will check out your suggestion.
I’m enjoying your substack SO much! Just got back from a trip to Europe & really enjoyed my plane ride back thanks to the shows & movies I watched. It’s so true about not having any interruptions, so I can focus, relax, & enjoy. And yes to ALL the snacks! We flew Virgin Atlantic & I swear, they fed us constantly & it was pretty good!
Underwear suggestion: I’m a huge fan of SOMA’s Vanishing Edge panties—no panty lines! I find them super comfortable too.
I’ve not had that issue but lord knows bodies are all different, right? I hate it when I find something I love & then it gets discontinued. Good luck on your search!
Seconding Boody. I ordered a few pairs and ended up replacing most of my drawer with the low rise bikini. So comfortable and breathable, though won’t really fight VPL, but I’m not wearing many tight pants these days.
And Owala! Yes! My search is over, I don’t need any other water bottles (now if they’d just stop coming out with new color combos).
I love both Pride and Prejudice versions for different reasons! The BBC one is more faithful to the book but I thought the 2005 one captured some of the heart of the book. (Not that the BBC one lacks heart!). The 2005 is also nice if you just want a 2 hour movie and not a miniseries). Plane movies are the best.
As for underwear. The worst thing ever to find! My personal recommendation are these: https://a.co/d/0iszyZ4j which stay out, have some nice smoothing action and hold up well over time. Not the sexiest thing but I’m too old for underwear that annoys me.
I had exactly this reaction when I watched the more recent P&P; I had dismissed it on first watch because there’s no Colin Firth, but it is freaking charming and goes down easy. Not only is the cast great, but I really enjoyed the extra details and context on the Bennett estate: more barns, farm animals and dirt, fewer drawing rooms.
I too am on a mission to find proper undies. I was Aerie loyal for years but they don't fit the same anymore. I did find a TikTok and a lady built a whole spreadsheet of undies but the filters are SO overwhelming it is still a struggle. I have been looking at Pact but the price point is double what I am used to paying.
MeUndies make undies that fit my curvy butt!
Matthew Macfadyen is no Colin Firth...he's better.
(never mind me, just trying to start a fight)

I actually have a pair of these! They're good, I just forget about them. I'll have to see how they do and maybe buy some more.

I've tried the Soma vanishing edge and found that the silicone strips really dig in if you sit for too long. I might revisit, though.

Thank you!
I recommend Thunderpants, which provide pretty good coverage and the company is woman owned and fairly progressive.
I've seen this brand and appreciate that it's woman-owned but I gotta say: it looks like Underoos.
Hahaha. I have the plain black briefs and hipster and they look good.
Ah! Yes, plain black is my vibe.
Underpants. Maybe try these from Boody. They are not cute but they don’t move and they’re super comfortable. https://boody.com/products/full-briefs-black

Thanks! They do look comfortable but I wish they didn't have BOODY written on the waist. I might give these a try.

Yes! Both versions are good for exactly the reasons you laid out.

I've tried Pact and found them...aggressively cotton-y but it's a good brand overall.
