Yay for God of the Woods! She's an author I never miss. I want a whole series with Judyta.

I always enjoy hearing about what you’re reading! God of the Woods was amazingly good! Have you read her book Long Bright River? You probably have but mentioning it too because it’s also so good & it’s been made into a series on Peacock. Good, not great, but I did like it. They probably could have shortened it by an episode or 2, in my opinion.

I’m pretty sure you’re a Tana French fan (I love her)…because of her, I’m trying to read more Irish authors. Specifically, brooding Irish mysteries because they are the best. So, I wanted to recommend 2 I’ve just recently finished and throughly enjoyed: Kala by Colin Walsh (3 adults who were part of a friend group as teens are reunited in their town when a body is discovered— their friend who went missing 15 years ago) and The Dark Hours by Amy Jordan ( a retired Cork detective is called back to consult on a serial killer case much like one she was involved with years ago).

Thanks for the recs! I'm definitely a Tana French fan. I haven't read Long Bright River yet but it's on my list.

I liked The Bright Sword quite a lot! There are 3 female characters who discuss magic & politics amongst themselves but it does take quite some time for them to show up. Two of them get their own chapters, even.

I loved God of the Woods and realized she wrote Heft as well which I read years ago and loved. I'm now reading Long Bright River, also by hers, and now a TV show.

My friend read God of the Woods and immediately re-read it. Then passed it to me. It's next on my list.

So funny, I liked "Magic for Liars" but when you noted there are better books on magic out there, I immediately thought of The Magicians! The Bright Sword is on my list, now I know what to expect. (And for cozy stories to escape >reality<, I have been revisiting Rosamund Pilcher. She's the OG and does it the best.)

Again, The Bright Sword is really well-written I just lost steam with it. And I love Rosamund Pilcher! Just good, cozy reads.

Thank you as always for the book recs! I just finished Sunrise on the Reaping. I saw someone on Instagram recommend None of This Is True and I was able to grab it on Libby. So that's next on my list. I gave up on Throne of Glass series. The Third Gilmore Girl was a lovely memoir as was From Here To The Great Unknown (but also a sad one).

I DNF'd it. It just got more and more creepy and I am not in a space to read creepy right now.

I have God of the Woods on hold, and I'm glad to have a thumbs up from a trusted source. :-) I will probably read the Sarah Gailey anyway, it ticks a lot of boxes for me, and I really enjoyed her Buffy comics. I wonder if you might enjoy the Night Raven, by Sarah Painter. It's a contemporary detective/magic story set in London, first of a series. I thought they should have been a little condensed, like more should have happened in each book rather than stretch them out over a series, but I read them all anyway. (On Libby.)

I didn't hate Magic for Liars, I just wanted more from it. I'll check out Night Raven, thanks!
