I am a big reader and love to share everything I’ve read, including the good, the bad and the DNF. Here’s what I’ve read in the last month or so.

The Frozen People by Elly Griffiths
Okay, I freaking loved this book. It has all my favorite elements - a mystery, time travel, and smart women solving crimes. It’s got everything! To back up, it’s about a cold case team that investigates a murder via time travel. This is the first in a series but the next book isn’t available yet in the U.S., which is a tragedy. Booo. Anyway, I loved it and can’t wait for the next one.
All The Other Mothers Hate Me by Sarah Harman
This one sounded intriguing, and I was about a third of the way through before I nearly abandoned it because every single character is unlikeable, which is hard for me. I’m so glad I stuck with it because I ended up really enjoying this book. It’s about Florence, an ex-girl band member, party girl and single mom. Her son’s classmate disappears under mysterious circumstances, and she teams up with another mother to try to solve the mystery and clear her son’s name. She’s not mother of the year but you end up rooting for her and the ending has a great twist.
The Girls in the Garden by Lisa Jewell
Lisa Jewell has become one of my low-key favorite authors for her brand of slow-burn thriller. This one is about a communal garden in London in which a young girl is mysteriously attacked after a summer party. It’s complex, with lots of plot twists, mysterious characters and red herrings. I loved it start to finish because, like many of Jewell’s books, her characters feel like real people with messy, complicated lives.

Any Trope but You by Victoria Lavine
I’m not even halfway through this but so far I’m enjoying it. Romance isn’t my usual genre but Marianne recommended it if I needed a light, fun read, and I absolutely did. It’s about a romance writer who secretly doesn’t believe in happily ever afters and is outed and canceled by her fans. To regroup, she travels to Alaska to write a murder mystery and immediately meets a hot dude right out of her own romance books. Silly, but fun. (Update: This one is fine but not for me, as it turns out. If you like somewhat silly romance books, it’s firmly in that category.)
Update:
Shrines of Gaiety by Kate Atkinson
I was about halfway through this book when wrote about it in my last Reading List post and I really enjoyed it, but the ending was a bit of a fizzle. If you’re a Kate Atkinson fan it’s absolutely worth reading for the interesting history and excellent writing but don’t expect a wild ending.
DNF’ed:
The Lost Story by Meg Shaffer
I still have this in my Kindle library and will probably give it another shot because the story, a fairy tale for grownups, sounds right up my alley. But something about the first couple of chapters just wasn’t working for me. I’m a moody bitch, what can I tell you.
Ok, so I loved The Lost Story but I think it's a book for a very specific mood and not one that you want to pick up and put down a lot. If you liked Narnia as a kid, you'll likely enjoy it, but it's very different than a lot of books for adults. In my opinion, it's best read when you are having a couch rot day and want to just get lost from reality.
Adding The Frozen People to my reading list right now!
