I am absolutely jumping the gun on this but it’s going to be sunny and in the low 60s this week so that’s enough for me. We always get a week or two of fake spring in Oregon before winter comes back and it’s enough to trigger a sudden longing for floaty white shirts, cut-offs and sandals. (Or, maybe just a lighter jacket? I’m really dreaming over here.) With this in mind, here’s what I’ve bought, what I’ve returned and what I’ve got my eye on:
First up, something I already bought. My longing last year for a pair of red suede sneakers came roaring back in a big way. I really wanted a pair of bright red/white adidas Gazelles but they are basically impossible to find in my size unless I want to pay well over retail, which I do not. Instead I found a pair of the adidas Handball Spezial in red/pink that scratched the itch enough for me. (I did switch out the pink laces for red because pink laces are a pink bridge too far.) These sneakers brighten up any outfit I wear them with and they’re actually comfortable! Yay.
I am also thinking I’d like a new pair of sandals this summer that are not Birkenstocks. Shocking, I know! I currently love the studded trend and this pair by Kenneth Cole has some very subtle studded detailing that I love. Plus, they look like they’d be pretty comfortable without leaning to far into “comfort shoe” territory.
Another thing I want is a subtle striped oxford shirt for reasons I’m not sure I fully understand but the heart wants what it wants. I keep trying to be a button up shirt person because I think they look so crisp and classic but I don’t know if they really work on me. Above is the one from Everlane that I had my eye on before realizing I ordered it last spring and returned it because the material was too stiff for me. Not to be deterred, I’m now looking at the silky cotton version because I never learn from my mistakes. I did get the same style in linen last summer and wore it a lot, so maybe?
And then, there’s this. The most beautiful red short anorak that I wanted badly enough to pay full price for it. An hour after I place my order it sold out in the red so I clearly wasn’t the only one. It showed up last week and was something of a disappointment. The color is amazing, the details are perfect, the sizing is WILD. I ordered the medium and it’s hugely oversized. I still kind of love it, but it is PRETTY FLAPPY Y’ALL:
Anyway. I’m returning it and might reorder if a small comes back in stock. In the meantime:
I’ve been eyeing this Boden short trench pretty hard. I love that it’s cropped but not too cropped and the striped detail in the back is kind of fun, no? I also like that it’s more nutmeg than camel (which can wash me out.)
PS. I also tried on this Rag & Bone cropped trench at Nordstrom Rack recently and it was cute but absolutely not $250 worth of cute.
What are you thinking about for spring? Other than this?
You should buy that Boden trench asap. That stripe in the back sets it apart, and it was pretty cute even without that stripe. We've had some days on the 50s here in chicago, and I've already gotten out my spring jackets just for the pleasure of putting them on. Today I wore short sleeves!
I’ve been craving a pair of red patent clogs. It feels right.
