I am also trying to do these sorts of things. I made all my social media private, deleted some apps, and am cleaning house. I am a Federal employee in DC so it has been a trial this week to preserve my peace, but dang, I am trying. DEEP BREATHS & outside walks FTW.
Yes - these past few weeks have been A LOT A LOT A LOT. Your advice is spot on and I’m trying to follow a lot of this. I want to keep my strength and focus and be ready to fight fight fight in any way I can. Not submit to the darkness as much as possible. We are not alone - today, or when you look at history since the beginning of time.
Agree. I barely look at IG any more. And that's after I did a deep house cleaning on it. However, I am currently focussed on building a life in what I call "Boutique America", a small, independent and more personalized country that exists as an alternative experience to "Mass Market America".
I deleted FB off my phone this week. It's a really terrible place these days and my feed is full of weird accounts I don't follow and AI generated crap. I really like the idea of engaging with people, something I don't often do. I tend to "go turtle" when I'm feeling overwhelmed, but today on the elevator I told someone I liked her hat (I meant it) and we made pleasant small talk on the elevator ride. Baby steps.
Great advice! I pulled back entirely from social media for the time being (aside from LinkedIn, but does that count really?). It's so refreshing not being hit by that never ending fire hose of content, but it is a bit lonely and I am totally out of the loop, so I extra appreciate these posts from you!
You always have practical and useful advice, thanks. The underfunded asks are a great idea! I sent out $25 to a few random folks that look like they needed it, and felt a little better. I have studiously avoided the news and Facebook for the last week, other than some really hilarious cartoons about Melania's hat. My Insta is mostly animals and baking, so I'm all right there.
My brain mushed up your sentences into “burn the notebook, wear the black lipstick, drink” which is also solid advice for these times!
It was -15F here yesterday and I am taking vitamin D and enjoying my dumb little treadmill walks because it’s warmer inside my freezer than it is outside so I’ll be enjoying sunshine through windows.

This is all such great advice. It does help that so many of us are out there having the same feelings.

As usual, such good advice. Thank you!
Loved this and needed this - thank you, and we will get through this.
