Hacks.
Season three of Hacks dropped recently and I think it might be the best one yet. It’s so fucking smart and funny and I can’t get enough of Jean Smart. I just love a show that centers around a deeply flawed but savvy older woman and it deals with a lot of the frustration around trying to stay relevant as you get older. Mainly, it’s just funny as hell. PS. the episode where she pranks Carrot Top (a throwback to a short conversation from season 2) is next level. There’s also a Hacks podcast! I just uploaded it and can’t wait to listen.
Reading Update!
I finished the new Tana French book The Hunter, which I mentioned in my last reading post. It was great, so atmospheric and stifling and dark. I just love her writing and I’m deeply invested in main characters. I hope there’s another book about Cal, Trey, and Lena but French rarely focuses on the same characters for more than two books. I’ll read pretty much anything she writes, though, so whatever is next, I’m here for it.
I also just finished Strange Sally Diamond by Liz Nugent and mostly didn’t love it. The first chapter was great and really sucks you in but the writing, especially the dialogue, was hard going for me. Sally was a really interesting character but I still found the B plot to be way more interesting (though really, really dark.) I don’t regret reading it but I just didn’t love the stilted dialogue and the ending was super rough.
Jones Road Beauty.
Jones Road products are absolutely not for everyone, but if you’re over 50 with dry skin? They might be for you. I bought What The Foundation last year and initially hated it. It’s thick, it’s scented, it separates, it’s a mess. (I still hate the packaging.) But, with some experimentation I learned how best to apply it - less is more with this one. For best results I stir it with a little metal tool and apply a small amount with my fingers to get a beautiful sheer finish that doesn’t oxidize or separate. It’s really hydrating and my skin loves it so now I do too.
I recently bought another polarizing Jones Road product - the Miracle Balm. I got the new shade called Pinched Cheeks which is a pigmented blush shade. Y’all, I love it. Again, a little goes a long way and you have to warm it up a bit first but it gives me the most natural glow with a bit of flushed color. It’s got a tacky feel but I dust a little finishing power over it and it’s fine. This is a product that people either love or hate - no in-between. Right now I love it. I’m fickle though, so I’ll keep you posted.
Well, I ordered a sample pack of the gummies! I'm just looking for something that will help me relax and enjoy For All Mankind, you know?
So, about these gummies. Do you know how they do with middle of the night brain spirals? 'Cause I don't have any trouble falling asleep, but staying asleep is another matter. Progesterone helps some, but not completely.
I think I need to give Jones Road another try. I bought some and initially didn't like it for all the reasons you stated plus I didn't get the color. I have some major discoloration on my face and it makes finding a foundation shade super difficult. I wish I could go somewhere and try it in person. Your recommendation for the Miracle Balm is going to be what finally makes me try it.
