Margo's Got Money Troubles has been picked up by Apple straight to series (no pilot bs) with Elle Fanning, Nicole Kidman, and David E Kelly all producing. Elle Fanning(Margo), Michelle Pfeiffer (her mom), and Nick Offerman (Jinx) are all set to star in it! I can't wait as this was one of my favorite reads of the year! I also loved Rufi Thorpe's previous book The Knockout Queen.
Everyone I know is reading God of the Woods, and I really liked it, though a few friends have found it slow. I also loved Help Wanted by Adele Waldman, which is sort of like the dark side of Superstore.
I'm right there with you on these books, hah! I hope you like Yellowface; I found it really compelling and tense. Jenny Colgan has a new Christmas short story coming (The Christmas Book Hunt) and of course I pre-ordered it immediately. Tom Lake lured me in because of the theater stuff. In a related way, you might enjoy Nora Goes Off Script by Annabel Monaghan. You know it is going to have a happy ending, but it is an interesting and heartfelt journey getting there.
So far I don't like Yellowface (June is insufferable) but I do find it compelling so I'm still reading it. I'm also excited about Jenny Colgan's new short story collection and I have read Nora Goes Off Script (and liked it.)
Always love your book reviews! I think I've finally convinced my book club to read Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland by Patrick Radden Keefe. It's not my usual cup of tea, BUT I've only heard rave reviews AND there's a new series coming out based on it and the trailer was really good, so now I want to get ahead of that. Can't wait to get started.
My comfort read go-to is Louise Penny’s mystery series. Good setting, food, and actually features an assortment of odd but strong female characters “of a certain age.”
I'm reading Tom Lake right now and am also loving it after thinking for a long time that I wouldn't. I generally like Ann Patchett's work, though, so I should just stop resisting her I guess. I also really loved Eleanor Oliphant. I thought the character development was really well done and it was darkly funny.
I loved Margo and Eleanor! Currently reading Chemistry by Weike Wang and just finished The Husbands by Holly Gramazio, Colored Television by Danny Senna, and Very Bad Company by Emma Rosenblum.
I've read a bunch of your suggestions and loved them! So here are the ones I'm reading now or recently completed: Hotel Cuba, The Music of Bees, The Lion Women of Tehran, James, Black Cake

Yes, I saw that! I love Nick Offerman but it seems like weird casting - he's not who I pictured as Jinx at all.
When I read Jinx, I thought of Mickey Rourke in the Wrestler. But I think Nick Offerman could work.

I've got The God of the Woods on hold at the library.
Burning through Helene Hanff right now - finally read 84, Charing Cross Road, and now I have to read everything she ever wrote!
Helene Hanff is wonderful! I wish I could read her books for the first time all over again.

Say Nothing has been on my TBR for a while. I'm thinking of tackling it in 2025.

I haven't read this series! Thank you.

I read the Money Troubles book and liked it--I want to live in that fairy tale. My other reads from October are here https://cronelife.substack.com/p/october-consumption-report if you want to take a look

I picked up Case Histories on your recommendation and it did not disappoint. I also loved Tom Lake in spite of myself!
